The aim of this paper is to analyze the discursive construction of identity among early adolescents during everyday family dinner conversations. Following the prescriptions of the Conversation and Discourse Analysis, the data focus on video-recordings of 18 dinner table interactions held by 6 Italian middle class families. The analyses are based on different levels: quantitatively, we look at the correlation between discursive roles of the early adolescents and a set of categories that represent different ways to show the identity within family interactions. We also present some conversational sequences in order to analyze qualitatively some excerpts of discursive construction of early adolescents’ identity.
